1)  Engine Build Log Book Pro, Updates/Bug Fixes  The Pro version of our Engine Build Log Book has been out for about 1 year.  It has major new features compared to the smaller Standard and Plus versions, which include:

With feedback from several users, we've found and fixed a few bugs to create the latest, v1.1 B.018.  to read the readme.doc file which lists these recent changes and bug fixes.  Click on Help (at the top of the main screen), and then select About...  to find the version of your program, written in blue.  If your version number has the letter "A" in it, you have one of the smaller Standard or Plus versions.  You would need to upgrade to the Pro version to get these new features.  Click on email link below for more info.

If you own the Engine Build Log Book Pro that is an earlier version 1.1 B.018, and want this free update to download this latest version.  Install it right over the top of your existing version.  When asked, select to do a Refresh installation instead of a Complete (typical) installation.

2) What Computer to Get?  We sometimes get a customer calling tech support saying "I had a problem, so I went out and bought the latest and greatest computer."  We always cringe when we hear this.  The "latest and greatest" computer could have features like fast computer speed, very high resolution screen, etc. that we have not seen yet.  These features may be great for gamers, but can actually create problems for our more "work horse" software, that just needs a basic Windows computer.

When a customer asks what type of computer to get, we typically say anything from Windows XP through Windows 10.  We have customers running Windows 11, but it is too early to say Windows 11 will work in all applications.  We actually prefer the older Windows XP or Windows 7, where we have lots of experience, and which have proven to be very stable.

We have occasionally seen problems with Samsung or Google computers, or ones with an "ARM" processor.  These seem to not be 100% Windows compatible.  The small tablets typically will work if they have a complete Windows operating system.  We also recommend a CD drive for installing software and USB drivers, and some data logging applications may require 1 or more USB ports. An internet connection is very helpful for tech support, so we can remote access you for faster service.  If your computer does not have a CD drive, we offer the "CD" as a zip drive (memory stick, USB drive), or you can download most everything from our website.
