1) Quick Cam Checker Tips Our Quick Cam Checker (QCC) is very popular with race track tech inspectors to find cams that are out of spec. It is designed to give you a quick idea of the cam in the engine while it is in the car. Install some sensors and spin the motor over with the starter and you have a good idea how big the cam is. The largest sales have been to techs for the GM 602 and 604 "sealed" crate motors.

We sometimes hear that the tester will not produce any results for some tests. Sometimes the problem will happen if the starter RPM is higher than about 200 RPM, which can easily happen with 16 volt batteries or some starter designs. We recently discovered it can happen if the valve lift readings are slightly "jumpy" during the compression stroke when both valves are seated.
We recently updated the firmware to better handle "jumpy" valve lift data to version 1.76. (The firmware version is displayed when you first power up your QCC logger.) It allows you to change how jumpy is too jumpy. We have seen significant improvements in eliminating tests with no results with this firmware update. If you want your Quick Cam Checker's firmware updated, you need to send it in. The charge will be $75 plus shipping.
to email us on how to send in your Quick Cam Checker.
If you are getting tests producing no results, and you suspect it could be because the starter is turning the engine over faster than 200 RPM, a couple of things to try include (and can be done with firmware older than 1.76):
for the updated QCC user manual. The changes from the previous
manual are on pages 4, 9 and 10.
